Newnes and Wollemi National Park

(No beaches in sight, thank god!)

After the 24km drive down the dirt road the once nice shiney blue hire
car was not so shiney anymore (tho i have to admit corolla’s handle
quite well on an unsealed road :), no problem i’ll wash it back home i
thought, but once home realised I have no bucket and sponge! no need
for them…i don’t have a car!

At the end of aforementioned road is the abandoned town of newnes
(about 2 and half hours from sydney) just the hotel remains, and the
ruins of the ‘kerosene shale’ works, which i dident get to see becasue
i ran out of time. I’d gone up there to look at the gloworm tunnel (a
dissused railway tunnel – 800m long, curving all the way through so
you can’t see the ends from inside – needless to say, very dark
inside) I have to admit the little fellas were pretty impressive, they
were all over the roof at one point, and really really small., but you
have to take my word for it – they were imposible to photograph with
the digital I have cos they put out so little light.
